Privacy Policy
Updated: July 2026
This policy explains what SortedOut collects, why, who we share it with, and how you can access or delete it. We have written it in plain language and kept it honest about what actually happens in the product today. A fuller policy is being prepared and a formal legal review is on the way, so expect this page to grow more detailed over time.
Who we are
SortedOut is an independent tool that helps people plan a skilled-migration path to Australia. We are not the Department of Home Affairs, a registered migration agent, or the Australian Government. This policy covers the SortedOut website and app at sortedout.app.
What we collect
Depending on how you use SortedOut, we may collect:
- Your email address, when you sign in with a magic link or Google, join a waitlist, or send feedback.
- Your points profile, such as age band, English level, education, occupation, work history, partner status, and location. You enter these to get your estimate. Until you sign in, your full profile is kept in your browser on your device, though some of it (such as your occupation and points) may be included in usage analytics when you have accepted analytics.
- What you type in the occupation finder, so we can suggest a matching occupation. We may keep this text for a short time to improve matching and prevent abuse, and it is deleted automatically within 90 days.
- Usage analytics, such as the pages you visit and the actions you take, so we can see what is useful and fix what is not.
- Input-masked session recordings, which replay how the interface is used with the contents of form fields masked out, to help us find and fix rough edges.
- Feedback and support messages, including anything you choose to write in them.
- Basic technical information, such as your browser type and, from our hosting provider, the country your request comes from (we use the country only to decide which privacy defaults apply to you).
Why we collect it
We use your information to run SortedOut: to calculate your points estimate, to save your progress and send the alerts you ask for, to answer feedback, to keep the service secure and working, and to understand and improve how the product is used. We do not sell your personal information.
The providers we rely on
We use trusted third-party providers to operate SortedOut. Each receives only what it needs for its role. All of them are located outside Australia, so using SortedOut involves your information being handled overseas. Here are the kinds of providers we use and what each is for:
- Analytics and input-masked session recording, to understand how the app is used.
- AI processing, to power the occupation finder from the text you type.
- Error monitoring, which can include your account identifier and email when something goes wrong.
- Email delivery, to send you sign-in links, alerts, and other emails you ask for.
- Internal alerting, which notifies our team about activity such as sign- ups and feedback and can include your email, occupation, points, and the text of any feedback you send.
- Database and sign-in.
- Sign-in with Google, when you choose it.
- Hosting and delivery of the site.
Analytics, cookies, and your choices
SortedOut uses cookies and similar storage, and they fall into two groups.
Essential cookies keep you signed in and your session working, keep the site secure, and remember this very choice. These are always on because the site cannot work without them, and they are exempt from consent, so there is nothing to switch off here.
Analytics and session recording are not essential. They help us understand how the app is used so we can improve it. How these run depends on where you are. If you are in the EU, EEA, or the UK, they stay off until you accept them in the banner we show you. Everywhere else, including Australia, they are on by default and you can decline at any time using the same banner. Declining only turns off analytics and session recording. It does not break anything, and the site keeps working exactly as before.
Accessing, correcting, or deleting your data
You can view and edit much of your profile directly in the app once you are signed in. You can also ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. To make a request, or if you have a privacy question or complaint, email us at sortedoutapp@gmail.com. The data your browser stores on your device for the calculator can be cleared by clearing your site data in your browser.
Keeping your information safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including access controls on our database and keeping sign-in credentials with our providers rather than in our own code. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to reduce the risk. We are still finalising our data-retention approach, and this section will be updated once a formal legal review is complete.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as the product and our providers change, and as our legal review progresses. When we make a significant change we will update the date at the top of this page. Please see our Terms for the rules that govern using SortedOut.
